Privacy Policy

This policy explains the information Snow Predictor currently processes when you browse the site or request a forecast, along with the limits of what can be confirmed from the application itself.

Introduction

Snow Predictor provides tomorrow-only snowfall information and a weather-based school closure outlook through the homepage forecast tool. This Privacy Policy describes the current public website and its application code. Third-party providers and hosting infrastructure may process information under their own configurations and policies.

The service does not currently include user accounts, payments, a contact form, or a database for saving forecast requests. Please do not submit names, email addresses, precise street addresses, or other sensitive information through the ZIP code field.

Information You Provide

The forecast tool asks for a five-digit US ZIP code. That ZIP code is information you intentionally provide so Snow Predictor can request weather for the relevant area. The field is not designed to accept a name, account identifier, or free-form message.

No other personal information is intentionally requested by the current application. If the service later adds accounts, contact features, subscriptions, or other data-entry tools, this policy should be updated before those features are made available.

ZIP Code and Forecast Requests

When you request a forecast, the ZIP code appears in the forecast page URL and is sent to Snow Predictor's server-side forecast endpoint. The server validates the input and sends the postal code and country code to the configured weather provider. The browser does not receive the provider's API credential.

Because the ZIP code is part of a URL and network request, it may appear in browser history, bookmarks, server access logs, proxy logs, or other technical records maintained by browsers, hosting systems, and network providers. Those records are not created or retained by an application database in the current Snow Predictor codebase.

Information Processed Automatically

Like most websites, the systems that deliver Snow Predictor may process technical request information needed to respond to a visit. Depending on hosting and network configuration, this may include an IP address, browser or device details, requested URLs, timestamps, response status, and security-related information.

The current application code does not read a visitor's IP address, build a device profile, or create an application-level activity log. Snow Predictor cannot confirm from this repository what records a hosting, proxy, DNS, or network provider retains or for how long.

Cookies, Analytics, and Browser Storage

Snow Predictor's current application code does not integrate an analytics or advertising tracker, set application cookies, or use local storage, session storage, or IndexedDB. The site therefore does not currently use those mechanisms to build an application-level profile of forecast activity.

Browsers, hosting platforms, security layers, or linked third-party sites may use their own storage or measurement technologies. Their behavior depends on services and settings outside this application code. If Snow Predictor introduces analytics or cookies, this policy should be revised to explain them before or when they are enabled.

Third-Party Services

Snow Predictor relies on service providers to deliver forecasts and editorial content. These providers may process requests under their own terms and privacy practices. Their infrastructure, retention, and operational logging are not controlled by this repository.

The current application uses server-side boundaries for provider credentials. Secrets are not intentionally exposed in public page code or forecast responses, but no internet service can promise absolute security.

Weather Data Provider

The configured weather integration is Tomorrow.io. To retrieve a forecast, Snow Predictor's server sends the submitted postal code and country code to the provider and receives weather and location data in response. Snow Predictor then normalizes that response before using it in the forecast and school closure outlook.

The weather request is made by the server rather than directly by the browser. Tomorrow.io's own processing and retention practices are governed by its policies and service configuration.

CMS and Content Services

Homepage editorial copy and Snow & Winter Stories may be requested from Snow Predictor's configured WordPress content service. These requests are made server-side and may be cached for a short technical revalidation period to deliver current content efficiently.

Published stories can include featured images and links. Image delivery and any destination you choose to visit may involve additional services with their own privacy practices.

Server and Hosting Information

Requests necessarily pass through the infrastructure that hosts and delivers Snow Predictor. Hosting, reverse-proxy, content-delivery, security, and network providers may process technical data to serve pages, prevent abuse, diagnose failures, and maintain their systems.

Exact production logging settings and retention periods are not defined in the application repository. This policy therefore does not promise that infrastructure logs do not exist or specify how long a provider keeps them.

Stories or other pages may link to websites Snow Predictor does not operate. Following an external link sends your request to that site, whose privacy policy and data practices apply. A link does not give Snow Predictor control over the destination's content or processing.

Data Retention

The current application does not implement a database for storing ZIP code forecast requests or user profiles. A forecast request is processed to return the requested result. Technical copies may still exist in browser history, caches, server or proxy logs, and provider systems according to their configurations.

The repository does not establish a universal retention period for those external or infrastructure records, so this policy does not claim one.

Data Security

Snow Predictor is designed to use HTTPS for its public, indexable site and for configured external service requests. Provider credentials are kept in server-side environment configuration rather than public browser variables. These safeguards reduce common risks but cannot guarantee that transmission or storage will always be secure.

Children’s Privacy

Snow Predictor provides general weather information and does not currently offer accounts or intentionally ask children for names, email addresses, or other identifying details. Children should not enter personal or sensitive information into the ZIP code field or elsewhere on the site.

Your Choices

You may use the informational pages without submitting a ZIP code. If you do not want a ZIP code included in a forecast URL, do not submit a forecast request. Your browser may also provide controls for clearing history, cached data, or saved URLs.

Review the Terms of Use for the conditions that apply when using the service, or return to the Snow Predictor homepage.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

This policy may be revised when Snow Predictor's features, providers, or data practices change. The date near the top of this page identifies the current published version. Material changes should be reflected in the policy when they take effect.

Contact

Snow Predictor does not currently publish a dedicated privacy email or contact form. When an official contact method becomes available, this section will be updated. Do not use the ZIP code field to send a message or personal information.
